Two Wedding engagements – New York City, Washington DC

Snow covered lawns and frigid temperatures make me long for spring. But until my spring engagements get underway here’s a little look back at my last engagement session of 2014 and to my first one of 2015. S+B had two sessions; one in their New York City neighbor in the Village and another over Thanksgiving at Meadowlark Gardens in Virginia. I had to include a shot from the balcony  of their fabulous Manhattan apartment at night. Seriously, what a view!! And the timing of this post is very appropriate since their wedding is this Saturday in DC.

K+J live in San Francisco and were in town over Christmas to celebrate the holidays, do lots of wedding planning and have their engagement photos taken. Extra bonus points for us that the day after Christmas was sunny and 50 degrees! FDR Memorial is a favorite of their (and a new favorite of mine) and we wandered from the Tidal Basin to the WWI Memorial to the Reflecting Pool. Needless to say we were not the only people out enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. Can’t wait to photograph their wedding in Alexandria in May with the fabulous Janice Carnevale at Bellwether Events.

Old Town engagements

A couple of weeks ago on a beautiful spring weekend I had the pleasure of back to back engagement sessions in Old Town Alexandria. The city was in full bloom and even though we were in the same general area I was determined to make two different sets of photos. We did use the same cherry trees (too pretty to pass up!) and part of the waterfront but overall I think I succeeded. And I did get to work with my 13 year old son as my assistant for the first time so that made the weekend just a little bit more special. I am looking forward to both Lindsay and Aaron and Caroline and Miguel’s weddings later this year.

Baltimore wedding engagement session

It was a lovely spring day when I met Hannah + Hal for the first time for our wedding engagement session in Baltimore. It was a blast to explore less familiar territory and how cool was the Pagoda in Patterson Park! We took full advantage of the newly blooming spring flowers and even though it got a little windy on the waterfront I think we made some very sweet photos. It’s a bit of a way off but I’m really looking forward to their Newseum wedding in late December.

Chu + David engagement session – Meadowlark Gardens Vienna, VA

A little mid-week love from my recent engagement session with Chu + David. Lovely late August blooms at the park and three wardrobe changes made for some very cute photos. Looking forward to their wedding coming up in just a few weeks.

Spring in DC

Love springtime engagements! Just a couple recent ones…Madeleine + Eduardo and Mariana + Dan. Both couples have springtime weddings as well. Can’t wait for both!

Talisha + Monica engagement photos

What an adorable couple! We had such a good time finding wonderful light in Rockville of all places. We started at their favorite local restaurant Cava, and worked out way through their neighborhood ending up at the big and very cool mirrored building at the Human Genome Sciences headquarters. It goes without saying that I am beyond excited for their Memorial Day weekend wedding!

Engagements Part 2

After taking a week off for a family trip to Maine, it’s time to post a few more engagement shoots. These are a little more recent than the last post–all were taken in late July and August. The biggest challenge with these sessions was back to back Brookside Gardens shoots. Lucky for me it’s such a pretty place with lots of options for wonderful photos. And the third was at Glen Echo, one of my childhood haunt so it’s always fun to go back.

Engagements

I am determined to get these posted before some of these wonderful couples get married! Yes, I’ve been too busy to blog these engagements but August is a great time to revisit earlier summer shoots, right? Here’s some of my favorites and I made my self-imposed deadline…Randi and Mike are getting married in Pa. on Aug. 25. For the rest of the couples, I’m looking forward to shooting their weddings in Sept. + November. And stay tuned for more recent engagements coming next week!

A couple couples…

Wedding season is here and since it’s such a pretty time of year in DC there’s always lots of engagement sessions on the schedule. Here’s a few of my favorites from two recent shoots — Kathleen and Chris at the National Cathedral and Katie and Jake at Belle Haven Marina and Old Town Alexandria. I’m looking forward to both couple’s fall weddings! And  on a side note–both brides are continuing my ongoing trend from 2011 with an abundance of  brides whose names start with the letter K.

Debbie + Paul’s engagement session – Navy Memorial, National Portrait Gallery + Verizon Center

Debbie, Paul and I hit a lot of great locations in a small radius of downtown DC for their engagement shoot. We started at the Navy Memorial and luckily just missed the Cherry Blossom parade. We made a pitstop outside the National Portrait Gallery before heading into the Verizon Center. They had their first date there at a Wizards game so we made our way to their seats that night then played around with the Wizards’ logo and some of the jazzy red walls on the concourse level.   It always fun for me to shoot in a meaningful location and it was great that Wizards’ owner Ted Leonsis was open to letting us recreate their first day! I’m looking forward to Debbie + Paul’s wedding in October. I won’t be at all surprised if there’s something sports related about their day…
