Kristi + Dan’s DAR wedding – June 5, 2011
One of the first things Kristi and Dan told me when we met to discuss their upcoming June wedding was that they didn’t like having their pictures taken. I could totally relate because it’s not my favorite thing to do either. They insisted that they always make goofy faces and weren’t comfortable posing. What they didn’t tell me (and probably couldn’t have known) is that they make wonderful photos together when they’re just being themselves and that that by making each other laugh makes the best photos of all. Their wedding was my second visit to DAR National Headquarters in less than a month and I was happy to be back. It’s such a beautiful and traditionally Washington venue. Their Sunday morning wedding was elegant and fresh with a pop of yellow everywhere from the lemons and orchids in the table arrangements to Kristi’s yellow heels and Dan’s retro yellow cufflinks. And of course, his gray and yellow Argyle socks! We were restricted a bit from shooting during the ceremony but we managed to sneak a few shots in. One thing that Dan and Kristi had promised me was a rocking crowd at the reception. I was skeptical…day weddings tend to be less rowdy. It’s bright and a lot less alcohol is consumed. But they proved me completely wrong. It was a big dancing crowd and I have to say I’m not sure I’ve seen two mothers of the couple have a better time dancing at their children’s reception! Lemon meringue pie was cut instead of cake (a family recipe) and then the couple scooted off by yellow pedicab, keeping the color scheme going throughout the day. As always, it was a pleasure to work with Ricky Carioti as my second shooter.
