Army Navy Country Club Arlington wedding – part two

Welcome to K+N’s Army Navy Country Club Arlington wedding reception! After the I Do’s it was time for a splendid party.

The evening kicked off with the couple’s beautifully choreographed first dance and the proceeded with toasts. The bride and groom chose chocolate milkshakes as their drink of choice!! And then the serious dancing (and singing along) got started. When the couple is this expressive and their friends and family are having so much fun on the dance floor, it’s hard not to take good photos.

I persuaded K+N to brave the cold just one more time for an after sunset photo. We headed out to the patio of the club with that stunning view of the Washington Monument in the distance. The colorful lights and a little magic light made for some of my favorite portraits of the day. We also snuck away for a minute to take the overhead photos with the chandelier in the foyer of the club. I’ve wanted to do that photo for several years so I’m so happy I had a chance to finally get a bride & groom photo from that vantage point.

Their grand exit which had their friends and family throwing rose petals was such a fun and different way to end the night. They look of joy and love as they made their way through the shower of flowers and to the waiting limo. It just doesn’t get better than that.

Army Navy Country Club winter wedding

February is not a traditionally popular time to get married in the Washington, DC area. But Kelly + Nathan used their offseason wedding to show off their classic elegance and showed how beautiful an Army Navy Country Club winter wedding can be. Sure, an early winter wedding provides some challenges–like 5 pm sunsets and cold temperatures but none of that was a deterrent to this fun couple.

I knew they were going to totally enjoy their day and be in the moment after photographing their wedding engagement photos at Meadowlark Gardens last summer. They could not have had more fun which always bodes well for the wedding day photos!

It was chilly but other than a quick trip outside for portraits, everything else was planned to be inside. The energy and fun of the day kicked off with Kelly and her girls getting ready nearby and taking special time out for a group prayer before heading to the country club. Nate and his buddies played board games before getting in their fancy clothes. Once the couple saw each other at their sweet first look and we took advantage of that wonderful grand staircase at the club, we headed outside. Let’s just say it was cold. But their joy at being (almost) married and her chic wrap kept them warm. The ceremony was held in the grand ballroom in front of the pretty picture window. And when they stopped and kissed in the aisle on the way out they brought the house down.

Next up: their details and reception and their fabulous rose petal getaway!!

Washington Golf and Country Club wedding – reception

A + K’s wedding continued at Washington Golf and Country Club with their rollicking good reception and a few fun details from their day. I just love the colors of the wedding. The purples and lavenders against the green accents was so light and fresh for a summer wedding.

After all the formal photos were done, cocktails commenced, the couple was introduced and the crowd immediately filled the dance floor. They were led by the bride’s dad who is one of the liveliest dancers I’ve ever seen! The father-daughter dance morphed from a nice traditional slow number into “Shout” with Dad leading the call and response. From that moment on, the dance floor stayed crowded. It was a beautiful summer evening and the back porch of the club was a perfect spot to catch a breath of fresh air and take a little break from the dance floor, great place with the best equipment for a party, my dad was talking with the owners about the EMS Solutions cable assembly contract manufacturing as he loves this type of technology so we got this great manufacturer as a plus.

Two surprises awaited guests as the party continued. The Cake Courtesan‘s full room dessert display was an instant hit. And as a special gift for the groom there was a bacon bar!! He was led in by his new wife for the big reveal and between the look on his face and the bride’s glee at having pulled it off was just so lovely. A late night indulgence–what a great way to start a new life together!

Washington Golf and Country Club wedding – Arlington, Virginia

Washington Golf and Country Club was a gorgeous backdrop for A + K’s perfectly planned classic Washington DC summer wedding. The day started at the bride’s parents home for hair, makeup and a few photos around her childhood home. I love when we get a chance to do photos at home.

We then headed to St. Luke’s Catholic Church in McLean down the road for the ceremony. Keeping with tradition, the couple didn’t see each other before she appeared at the top of the steps leading into the sanctuary. The look on Kevin’s face when he finally saw his bride was priceless. And don’t get me started on the adorable flower girls and ring bearer! One of my favorite photos from the early part of the day was the look of complete joy and happiness when the ceremony was over and they left the church.

The second stop of the day was to the club where we took full advantage of fabulous weather  (it was August in DC!!) and worked out way around the club and onto the golf course.  The summer tones of the purple bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen ties was just lovely again the greenery of the club. Add in some green mirrored sunglasses for the bridal party and it makes for one cool photo.

A special thank you to Sara Franklin at Social Scene Events who thought A+K and I would be a good fit and for making everything run like a top of the big day!!

Stay tuned for part two–the reception and lots of fun details and a special surprise at the end of the night for the groom.

Top of the Town wedding – Arlington, Virginia part two

Welcome back to E+Z’s Top of the Town wedding in Arlington, Virginia!

Today we highlight some of the details of their big day and the incredibly fun reception. I loved the clean lines of their centerpieces and the classic navy and white accents throughout the room. When the view is this spectacular, you go with it! We also lucked into an amazing sunset for some patio portraits after cocktails.

They entered the room through a tunnel of the arms of their friends and family. As the daylight waned it was easier to show the amazing view from their dance floor. Their sweet and funny first dance was followed by such emotional speeches from the best men, maid and matron of honor and both dads. The dance floor opened and they danced the night away in full view of a strawberry moon. One of my favorite shots from the reception is the reflection of the dancers in the window with the Lincoln Memorial seen through the window. For their grand exit, their guests lined the corridor to clap and cheer as they made their way to the elevator and out into the night!

Another photo that I just love from this wedding is the sweet shot of just E+Z waiting for the crowd to line the hallway for their grand exit. They were sitting on a bench on the patio with the twinkling lights behind them and the skyline of Arlington in the distance. It reminded me of a photo of my husband and I from our wedding where we were just sitting on a couch taking a moment to appreciate what we’d just celebrated. It’s those little moments that truly made a wedding special for me.

Top of the Town wedding – Arlington, Virginia Part One

Top of the Town in Arlington, Virginia has one of the most spectacular views of Washington, DC. E+Z’s wedding day from beginning to end took full advantage of that scenery.

A perfect cloudless (and hot) day meant we were able to take a large percentage of the formal photos (including their first look) on the grounds of the nearby Netherlands Carillon. It’s the same view as Top of the Town, just a bit lower in elevation As much as I love the shots with the monuments, I was a little obsessed with the blue/grey metallic background of the Carillon itself. It matched really well with the bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s suits for a monochromatic look in pretty shaded light.

It’s not often that I photograph high school sweethearts so recently out of college. In a nod to their dating history we stopped to take some photos in front of the bride’s Jeep. They went to prom in a similar truck! Both are also Penn State grads and I have a hunch that the blue and white color scheme for the reception was not accidental.

For the ceremony we headed up the glass exterior elevator (full disclosure, heights are not my favorite thing) and the couple and their bridal party came down the aisle and gathered in front of the windows overlooking the city. Their ceremony was sweet and a little tearful as were the vows the couple wrote for each other.

What struck me the most about E+Z as a couple is how well they fit together and how mature they are. They have a great group of close friends and doting family. One of my favorite photos of the day was a shot not on their original shoot list, of the bride and groom surrounded by both sets of parents and all three couples sharing a kiss. If that doesn’t say relationship goals I don’t know what does!

Check back soon for part two of their day—it’s all about the details and the reception!!

Favorite wedding photographs of 2016 Part Two

My favorite wedding photographs of 2016 continues with the second half of the year. The fall wedding season brought to two destination weddings, one on Mackinac Island, Michigan and the other in Provincetown, Massachusetts. I had fun exploring both locations and it’s always a great creative challenge to photograph a wedding in a new location so different from the metropolitan DC area.

Here are the full blog posts from each of the weddings below but enjoy the five images I’ve chosen from each one.

Army Navy Country Club wedding – Arlington, VA

Army Navy Country Club wedding Deb Lindsey Photography_01

When I first met Alicia + Chris to talk about their Army Navy Country Club wedding in July, it was the beginning of a snow storm in January. We met again at the beginning of a very hot streak of summer on their wedding day. A few minor adjustments into shady spots and the couple were complete troopers braving the heat and a bumpy golf cart ride to make beautiful photos. Their day was filled with sparkle and sophistication and that dress!! The back was just stunning. Their ceremony took place on the rooftop patio overlooking the Washington Monument and thankfully the sun was low enough behind the club to keep the guests cool. One special relationship that I kept my eye on throughout the day was the bride and her dad. From the look on his face when he walked her down the aisle to their spirited father-daughter dance at the reception, it’s clear they have a special bond and that he couldn’t be prouder of his girl. We also managed to pop out on the balcony just after sunset for some portraits against the gorgeous sky. I am always thrilled when I get a good sunset and a couple willing to sneak away from their party for a few minutes. This one, like their whole day, did not disappoint.

Army Navy Country Club wedding- Arlington, VA

Back to back Friday weddings on glorious fall days, how lucky could I get? Caitlin + Joey’s day was great from start to finish. There was the sweet moment where the bride’s niece helped her put on her shoes, Joey’s hug for his mom before the ceremony and the way that the two of them kept laughing and leaning in to each other during the service. And I can just go on and on about the portraits of the two of them. I knew from our engagement session in Old Town that the two of them would be stelar on the wedding day and I was not disappointed. We even had a little spur of the moment fun getting the full bridal party out onto the golf course with the Washington Monument in the background in between golfers playing through. I loved their first dance and the groom’s brother in law who is stationed in Afghanistan made an entrance with his family into the reception via iPad. A highlight of the evening was the couple’s friends singing “Wagon Wheel” with the whole crowd singing along. And for me, it was so great to catch up with my former couple Maura + Pat and to see so many familiar faces from the previous weddings I’ve photographed of Caitlin’s friends.

Happy New Year (baby)!

After a wonderful time over the holidays with friends and family it’s time to get back to work…sort of. I had the pleasure of shooting these two adorable babies right around the holidays. I was so happy to see Anna again–I did her first photo shoot a year ago when she was just a couple weeks old. Stella was a new acquaintance. Really new–12 days old! She was such a good girl, posing solo and with her family including big sis Lauren. But I think the most notable thing about Stella was her hairdo. She had a perfectly coiffed head of hair. It was quite stylish for one so young. 🙂 And I’m particularly fond of the feet shot…
