Old Town Alexandria Virginia elopement

When M + C  decided to elope on a Wednesday in Old Town Alexandria last fall I was all in! First, it was a wedding on a Wednesday! And secondly, I am a total sucker for a small wedding. As they got themselves and their two beyond adorable little boys ready at the Hotel Indigo overlooking the Potomac River, there were just lovely small moments that showed me just how close this family was and how excited they were to make everything official. It may have not been a true elopement though. They were joined for the ceremony by their immediate family who cried during the quick vows and held hands in a prayer circle for the couple just afterwards. Next stop was the Carlyle House which is one of my favorite lesser known spots of portraits in Old Town. The place was deserted and how perfect were their family portraits in front of the blue door in the front of the building?! Their boys were perfection. One more quick portrait by my favorite doors at the Torpedo Factory and they were off to a little lunch celebration. Congratulations to the whole family on having an intimate day with those they hold the dearest!

Georgetown Elopement in the Washington Post

Brandi + Mike‘s incredibly sweet and romantic Georgetown elopement made the Washington Post Style section today! I know it’s a little geeky to be so excited even though my photos run quite a bit in the paper but it’s always a kick to get a wedding photograph in print. And online!

How adorable were these two? It’s been awhile since I’ve done an elopement that was this much fun. It was a perfect storm of a couple in love willing to let me do my thing, gorgeous light and a couple of hours to play in Georgetown. Brandi and Mike planned well ahead and scheduled their wedding on a Monday in early May. In a month of really rainy days we lucked into a few hour window of brilliant sun before the return of torrential downpours. The couple left it up to me to find them a spot for the ceremony and a quick scouting of the area brought us to the canal. Their ceremony was filled with tears and laughs and a small audience who respectfully kept their distance. They wrote the own vows and the were just so joyful when it was pronounced that they were officially married. From there we just roamed Georgetown, chasing the wonderful light on the canal, at the Old Stone House on M St. walking the intersection of Wisconsin and M and finally we arrived back at the Rosewood Hotel (formerly the Capella) where they were nice enough to let us use their rooftop pool deck for some fun city overviews (OK, mostly industrial looking rooftops but still cool!). Then they were off to sail the Greek Isles for a few weeks as a honeymoon. Sounds heavenly.
